Living without a car I found that the trip to the laudromat and carrying the bag of clothes up and down the stairs was a little bit too much of a work out for me after a while ... Saving time, electricity and energy and my back ... and lot of money i can spend on cloths or food instead ... washing at home is just great ... you need just to have enough water to soak the cloths and not a full bath or tub or sink ... and mix it well with the water and soap ... so saving water from the machine too ... and there is heat in the summer and from the heating system in the winter ... just get use to have the process early in advance since it will take few days to be dry ... and so using no dryer ... one idea to save even more water is to let the tub fill with the bath water instead of a shower and then add the soap in it and wash the cloths ... water that was discarded anyways is used twice ... then you use new water to rinse and same only to soak the cloths and you can add or not some fabric softener ... I like the old fashion soap Borax or natural soap in powder for the laundry ... you can also have a textured cutting board to scrub the cloths with soap for better washing ... best for privacy and not loose any piece too ... and sure there was also enough water to rinse the laundry as some machine sometimes defectives do not have enough water in the rinse ... You can soak and wash anything even blankets or jackets but maybe only this item at once ... after your wash to drain so it doesn't leak everywhere on the floor or break your drying rack with the water weight , pile it on top of a stool fitted on a blanket first to protect the legs of it from scratching the tub and let for the rest of the day and night this way ... then place on the drying rack and you will see it is almost half dry already ... in a day or two the whole load is dry and hand wash with love :)

the tub do not need to be filled and to save your back ... indeed clean feet works well with the clothes heavy with the water ... better to sit on the side though not to fall :)
Pile the wet clothes, after it drain in the tub, on a stool in the tub BUT on a blanket not to scratch the tub :)
After 1 day like this the cloths will be half dry already and dry in no time on the rack not making too much humidity as if you were to dry it on a radiator ... but a little humidity if the air is dry in the winter ...
